Men are not all the same. I suggest you have some Basic Standards or a #1 Deal Breaker that keeps you in check. How do you know when you like a guy for no substantial reasons? Here are some suggestions:
1. When you're feeling lonely and extra vulnerable.
2. He's the "new guy" in town, in school, at work--wherever--and you already like him before knowing anything about him.
3. He fits the criteria of The Guy No One Else Wants.
There are numerous substantial reasons for liking someone. The following are some not-so-substantial reasons:
1. The only thing you know about him is that he's attractive. This is one of those times when you're dwelling on The Unattainable, which essentially means you like him for no substantial reasons.
2. The only thing you know about him is that he's single.
3. The only thing you know about him is that he's male.
Come on. We can do better!
It's up to us decide what is substantial and what isn't. If you're self-aware, you'll be able to have your own standards and deal breakers. If you're worried about obsessing over a list of rules for prospective boyfriends, take a look at this post:
